Not A Cornfield
A sculpture breathing new life into Downtown Los Angeles

ooOver this last couple of weeks I have heard the word, term, message etc. of "greenspace" more than 30 times. Usually the discussion revolves around how here in the Downtown area we do not have enough greenspace...or is it that it is pretty much nonexistent.

AAArtist Lauren Bon and a team of people working under her direction have produced an awe inspiring temporary green space installation. The sculpture is a corn field planted on 23-acres of the 32- acre site. The sculpture is located just north of Chinatown on a stretch of land known as "The Cornfields". An area originally fed by the Los Angeles River and now considered the geographical center of the Los Angeles urban area.

TTThe project imported tons of agricultural grade soil, installed an irrigation system, created a mile long walking path around and through the the center of the site with temporary facilities supporting public programs and site management placed in and around the sculpture site. Plans are to harvest the corn in the fall.

YYYour participation is welcome and encouraged. The sculpture address is 1201 North Spring Street.
Don't miss this powerful project!

The project was made possible by a generous grant from the Annenberg Foundation on a site owned by the California Department of Parks and Recreation
.
